The Iranian labour activist Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, a member of the Commitee to Pursue the Establisment of Workers’ Organisations and a children’s rights advocate, began hunger strike on December 3. He was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment and has been incarcerated by the Iranian regime since June 2010.
On December 3, Iranian regime charged him with “holding connection with Ahmad Shahid, the special rapporteur on supervising the state of human rights in Iran, and with a political organisation”. These new charges pose the risk of a new sentence for him. He was seriously beaten and transferred from Evin Prison to the Rajaie Shahr Prison in Karaj. He has started a hunger strike to be transferred back to his previous prison.
He turned his hunger strike into a dry hunger strike since December 19. His state of health is worsening.
UID-DER demands immediate and unconditional release of Behnam Ebrahimadeh and all other labour activists and political prisoners. And we fully support the struggle of our class brothers/sisters in Iran.
Free political and labour activist prisoners!
Long live the international unity of struggle of the working class!
Association of International Workers’ Solidarity (UİD-DER)
